Ikh Nart is designated as a 'nature reserve' and as such falls under the legal management authority of the local soums (counties). Ikh Nart stretches across and is managed by two soums in the Dornogobi aimag (province) including Dalanjargal and Airag.

Management in the reserve focuses on reducing threats to biodiversity and the natural integrity of the reserve and developing eco-tourism. The reserve employs a team of rangers that conduct regular patrols of the area.
