In 2003, the Earthwatch Institute partnered with the Mongolian Academy of Sciences and Denver Zoological Foundation to assist with on-going research and conservation efforts in the Ikh Nart Nature Reserve. Since 2003, Earthwatch conducted over 10 scientific expeditions in the reserve through their Wildlife of the Mongolian Steppe program.
Earthwatch planned five expeditions in 2007 and to-date all have been completed. During expeditions, Earthwatch volunteers contributed to a variety of on-going projects. Volunteers helped radio track Argali Sheep, Ibex, Red Foxes, and Hedgehogs, helped band and monitor nest success of Cinereous Vultures, collected Argali behavior information, and surveyed vegetation diversity.
More expeditions are planned for 2008 from April to October. For further information on Earthwatch Institute's Wildlife of the Mongolian Steppe program, see their official website.
